Vitesse saves £1m

We are delighted to reveal one of our customers in the first year of deploying Vitesse in their network has saved £1m.

An amazing return in their investment.

How did they do it?

Step 1

They prepared their site teams with clear communication about the purpose of introducing Vitesse and the mutual benefits it would bring.

A fairness in the way individual and team performance will be evaluated, every individual task having time allocated reflecting the nuances of the task – those with experience of running large scale pick operations will be familiar with pickers wanting to wait for a ‘decent pick’ because ‘you get a better rate’ – those days are over.

Performers will be known and recognised, straight forward and refreshing. Our customer has gone a stage further and introduced a performance related pay scheme to drive home their ambitions to reward performers knowing the scheme is self funding.

New starters and those retuning from time off can have bespoke targets to reflect their circumstances – for example, new starters might be working to 50% of target on their first day post induction increasing by 10% every day.

Operational visibility improves and service levels are protected – service to customers is vital and Vitesse has a role to play.

Knowing where performances are not on plan, in near real time, is incredibly powerful. It gives managers the opportunity to find out precisely where issues lie and lay plans to correct them during shift. The horse has bolted if you are conducting next day performance reviews and likely the customer will be asked to pay the bill of that prior day.

Step 2

Guidance was given to the first line management team about the performance levels that were expected from their teams over a given period of time. People will have a bad day at work and that shouldn’t represent a crisis, having a clear understanding of the evaluation period led to a consistent approach by all managers in all departments.

Helping to nurture a culture of higher performance and continuous improvement – you simply have to measure to improve.

Step 3

Each site had an owner of Vitesse, becoming a driving force and subject matter expert in equal measure.

Vitesse is part of the daily operational toolkit.

Step 4

Taking advantage of Vitesse’ functionality – for example, it is possible to model within Vitesse an operational idea before spending a penny on it to be sure it delivers what is proposed.

Huge benefits having a ‘before and after’ capability whilst proving a confidence and robustness to capital expenditure business cases.

Our customer identified an opportunity to change picking methodology and ran the concept through Vitesse using historic data to prove their thinking.

Vitesse saves money.
